While Northland athletes curl and skate their way to the podium in Sochi, we at home, will cheer them on from living rooms and bars.
“It’s incredible for a small community, how many people are representing the United States in Sochi right now and we feel a ton of pride in that,” said Brad Nelson with Fitger’s Brewhouse.
But Fitger’s Brewhouse is taking their Olympic pride a step further with a whole new line of special brew.
“We have 7 Olympic-themed beers on tap pouring,” said master brewer Dave Hoops.
Hoops and his team have created the Sochi Series. The series offers seven brand new beer recipes that are all strong, like the Olympic athletes themselves.
“They highlight curling, hockey, skiing, and stuff like that,” said Hoops.
The series is on tap, but they’re bottling it, too.
One of the beers pits the world against the USA.
“The idea is to try them head to head and pick your winner. They’re both pretty burly, dank, floral IPAs,” he explained.
The USA IPA is made up of 25 American hop varieties. The World IPA has 25 hop varieties from across the globe.
There’s also a milk chocolate coconut stout called Slippery Slope for the skiers and a USA Curling Capital Belgian Black IPA for the curlers.
Hoops said his favorite is the World IPA, but no matter what, he’s pulling for the home team.
“Go USA!” said Hoops.
Friday night, the entire Sochi Series will be on tap at Tycoon’s Alehouse. Fitger’s Brewhouse and the Burrito Union also have some of the beers on tap. The series will run until the Olympics finish or until the beer runs out.
