Duluth is the best. We felt so all along and now readers of Lake Superior Magazine have overwhelmingly confirmed it in the magazine’s “Best of the Lake” honors.
In the current August/September issue, public and private locations in Duluth landed 11 “best of” honors. For those of us in tourism, we’re pleased to see our investments are working. More broadly, the selections strengthen for me how lucky we are to be residents of Duluth.
Our Visit Duluth marketing reinforces the beauty of where we live, the attributes of our fantastic community and the support of Visit Duluth members (some of whom got awards, too). It all goes to the common goal of doing the best for our community — and turns out others think we’re the best, too.
First, Duluth — the city itself — earned an award for “Best Place for a Day Outside.” Very impressive given the region’s outdoor appeal. A majority of the magazine’s online and print readers, sending surveys from 16 states and three Canadian provinces, agreed that enjoying a day outside exploring Duluth was their top pick.
Other top choices show why Duluth has such strong character. Duluth’s Lakewalk earned “Best Shoreline to Stroll,” Park Point got “Best Swimming Beach” and Canal Park was the choice for “Best Public Lake-View Spot.” The Thompson Hill Travel Information Center at the edge of the city earned “Best Information Center,” no doubt because of both its service to visitors and its spectacular views of the city.
Public spaces were not the only ones honored. Many Duluth businesses proved their merit, too, for Best Locally Made Brew (Fitger’s Brewhouse), Best Casual Dining (Duluth Grill), Best Smoked Fish (Northern Waters Smokehaus), Best Family Lodging (The Inn on Lake Superior) and Best Experience on the Water (Vista Fleet — another contribution to a great day outside).
