We fondly look back at our past year with our Brewhouse family. One more year loaded with sweet recollections, cheerful times, and (of course) excellent beer. 2018 felt like the turning of a page for our organization for so many wonderful reasons.
We welcomed our new Head Brewer, Alex Chocholousek, (it’s a mouthful, we fondly refer to him by his family nickname “Coke”) at the end of last year, and in January, he got things moving right along with the introduction of The Haze, the Northshore version of a Northeast Style IPA. This juicy, popular style has remained on-tap almost all year with a rotation of different hops used.
The winter moved right along, with us true Northern folk making the most of the snow during Cold Front Days in Canal Park with Endion Station’s first winter open. All the families truly enjoyed an excuse to take the kids out during our long winter months.
We were also lucky enough to sling some rocks with the best of the best! The Duluth Olympic Gold Medal Curling team made an appearance on the ice during our Staff Appreciation curling event! We traded growlers of Duluth Beer for hugs and handshakes from the Olympic Gold Medal winners. Talk about star struck!
Highlights from the springtime included our Superior Street Brewer’s Row Pub Crawl sponsored by The Growler and included stops at 10 different craft beer centric pubs/breweries along Superior Street Downtown. This year’s theme was Lumber Jacks and Jills.
It was with great excitement that we got to help our friends at Duluth Brewhouse bring some of our favorite recipes to the canned distribution market this year! We heard you Twin Cities! You wanted that easy-drinking, delicious Apricot Wheat in a can and the ability to be picked up at your favorite liquor store! Well, now you can! Duluth Brewhouse has now come out with 4 of our staples in 16oz cans.
Another new way to bring the Brewhouse home this year? Crowlers! Fill up a few of your favorite seasonals in these handy 32 oz cans. Available in the prefilled in the Beer Store or off the tap in The Barrel Room.
And if you’ve really got it bad for us, we also released a Brewhouse Rewards program this summer. Get one point for every dollar spent on food, beer, or merchandise! Redeem your points for free beer or root beer!
We wrapped up the end of the summer with everyone’s favorite Bayfront Festival, All Pints North! We celebrated the night before All Pints with a Brewer’s Soriee in The Rathskeller in sponsorship with Foxx Equipment. We gave away prizes, traded some good beers, drank through most of our amazing tap list, and enjoyed the company of the hardworking people in our industry from around the state.
Every September we release our famous Cherry Batch brewed with hundreds of pounds of Door County Cherries. This year, as we celebrated our 23rd Anniversary, we sold out in record time. We had even doubled our batch! Catch us early next year for presales!
The fall ramped through with a fun Oktoberfest down at Endion Station followed up by Duluth’s first ever Cider Fest. Endion Station has one of the largest selections of cider varieties in the state and this year, we decided to really celebrate our love of this apple beverage! With tickets selling out and more interest than we could even possibly fit on our deck, Cider Fest was a super fun success.
A new stage in The Barrel Room has allowed for our music program to really take off again. We had some really great shows in there this summer and fall, including a performance by Big Wave Dave and the Ripples during the Beer Release Big Wave Dave’s Funk Juice IPA. Read more on that fun collaboration here.
No November would be complete without a Thanksgiving Burrito from Burrito Union. We rolled sooooo many Thanksgiving Day Burritos. We love that everyone loves it. It’s a really special time of year for us.
And so now out with the old, in with the new, We’ve got lots to brew!
We’ve already got lots in store of 2019. Look for our grand opening of the Brewer’s Garage coming soon! More details on that soon to come!
Thanks for everything you do and everything you are doing.
Cheers and join us tonight as we kick off the New Year with a Beer Release of a Biere de Garde style. New Year, New Beer!
